Job summary
To provide continuous medical cover and support for elective orthopaedic patients, ensuring safe perioperative care, timely management of clinical issues, and effective communication with the multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced surgical environment. Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
Provide medical cover on wards and in theatres for elective orthopaedic patients. Monitor and manage perioperative patient conditions, including early identification and escalation of complications. Support consultants and surgical teams with pre-op and post-op medical management.
Liaise closely with nursing staff, physiotherapists, pharmacists, and other MDT members to ensure coordinated patient care. Participate in handovers and ensure accurate documentation of patient care. Contribute to the delivery of enhanced recovery and same-day discharge pathways.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills Essential Essential: Full GMC registration with a valid licence to practise. Experience in orthopaedic or surgical inpatient care. Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in a high-throughput environment.
Desirable Desirable: Familiarity with enhanced recovery and same-day discharge pathways. Experience managing perioperative medical care in elective surgery.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications & Experience: Medical degree with full GMC registration and appropriate licensing to practise. Experience in surgical or orthopaedic medicine, preferably in a high-volume elective setting. Competent in acute medical assessment and management.
Desirable Desirable Experience: Experience working in fast-paced orthopaedic or surgical units. Knowledge of enhanced recovery protocols and perioperative medicine.
