About the role

Job summary

We are looking for a Medical Secretary/P.A. to join the IPMS Team at WSH. The Pain Department is made up of doctors, a psychologist, a team of specialist nurses, physiotherapists and medical secretaries.

A Medical Secretary/P.A. is needed to assist the team with their administration work and clinical typing. Part of this role will be setting up clinics and booking up follow up appointments.

Liaising with the Telephone Appointments and Waiting List Staff to ensure clinics are set up in a timely fashion and all slots are utilised. You will responsible for your doctors day to day diary, annual leave, professional leave and study leave.

You will be dealing with patients with chronic pain conditions, these include fibromyalgia, spinal conditions, etc. Main duties of the job To provide a comprehensive personal assistant/secretarial service in support Consultants and associated medical team, ensuring the provision of an efficient and reliable service.

qualifications

Essential RSA II / III typing qualification or equivalent. GCSEs (including English and Maths) at grade C or above. Desirable Medical Secretary qualification (AMSPAR certificate) or equivalent Microsoft Office qualification.

Experience and knowledge Essential Previous experience as PA or secretary/administration experience Able to demonstrate experience and understanding of issues relating to confidentiality. Audio typist. Desirable Previous NHS or related environment Patient / customer care experience.

Medical terminology Skills and abilities Essential Audio typing. Able to demonstrate skills that ensure tasks are completed accurately and within a given timeframe.

Accurate keyboard skills Clear and precise communication skills Organisational and administrative skills Desirable Touch Typing Knowledge of the hospital administration system Understanding of databases Personal qualities Essential Friendly and helpful manner towards working duties.
