Do you want to help shape the future of OPAT across one of the UK's largest NHS Trusts? We are seeking a motivated pharmacist to join the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) team at University Hospitals Birmingham, based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop specialist expertise within a well-established and innovative service while helping shape the future delivery of OPAT across the Trust.

As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, you will work alongside infection specialists, antimicrobial stewardship pharmacists, nurses, pharmacy technicians and community providers to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across organisational boundaries.

You will attend OPAT clinics and MDT meetings, review patients on inpatient wards, assess referrals and contribute to complex clinical decision-making. We are looking for someone who combines strong clinical skills with a passion for service improvement.

You will participate in weekly clinics, quality improvement projects, support pathway development and help deliver changes that enhance patient outcomes and experience.

The successful candidate will be confident working collaboratively across professional groups, building effective relationships and contributing to service innovation within a complex healthcare environment.

Main duties of the job We are seeking an experienced, motivated and forward-thinking clinical pharmacist to join our Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service.

As a key member of the OPAT MDT, you will provide specialist pharmaceutical care to patients receiving complex antimicrobial therapy. You will participate in OPAT clinics, MDT meetings, review referrals, assess patient suitability for OPAT and lead medicines optimisation throughout the patient pathway.

Independent prescribing skills are essential, enabling direct contribution to clinical decision-making and patient management.

Working closely with infection specialists, antimicrobial stewardship pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, specialist nurses and community providers, you will support safe, effective and patient-centred antimicrobial treatment while promoting antimicrobial stewardship.

Qualifications

Essential *4 year vocational Masters degree in pharmacy (or equivalent) *Independent prescribing qualification *Post-graduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent experience *Working towards Level I Faculty Membership with the RPS *Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council *General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) accredited independent prescriber Desirable *Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in Infection Management and OPAT e.g Future Learn MOODLEs *Completion of NHS Leadership Programmes e.g.
